Mets players reportedly paying to attend workouts at team facility | Big League Stew - Yahoo Sports

Adam Rubin (@AdamRubinESPN) January 15, 2015 They're pushing envelope of what's permissible in terms of sponsored offseason workouts. Almost seems like there's penalty for not attending Adam Rubin (@AdamRubinESPN) January 15, 2015 That was the earliest information from ESPN New York's Adam Rubin on Thursday. He has since followed up on Friday, reporting that a source told him players are being charged $4,400 as major leaguers and $1,000 as minor leaguers to attend workouts overseen by new strength and conditioning consultant, Mike Barwis. If that name sounds familiar, Barwis is also the star of the TV show American Muscle, which airs on Discovery Channel. The workout is legit, but it turns out the Mets involvement may not be as deep as it originally appeared. Here's more from Rubin: The Mets made several points in defense of the structure, including that Barwis is an independent contractor using Mets facilities, that players are provided three meals daily, and that it would cost money for the players to hire trainers in the offseason anyway.

Can I work out with weights more than once a day? Most of the time my work schedule allows me only short breaks to get to the gym. I'm a 30 year-old male who truly enjoys exercising, but with my erratic schedule I have sometimes only 20 or 30 minutes in which to exercise. That's not much time. Please offer some help.

Shorter workouts on the go | KeysNews.com

And I'd be willing to bet based on the increase in the weights used in tell-tale exercises like the squat, the dead lift, and the military press that almost all of the weight gained was muscle mass. Aesthetically, my body looked better at 181 than 168 but functionally it was inferior if the goal was to ascend hills on a bicycle faster. While the extra muscle allowed me to sprint faster, I found that to be an unequal trade off. Back then, I was never anything more than an average bicycle sprinter, so improving my sprint might mean I was going to finish eighth instead of tenth in a fairly flat road race. But losing a bit of my ability to climb could keep me from finishing on the podium at the hilliest races.
